Description

Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art is a non-profit, visual arts center presenting exhibitions and educational programs focusing primarily on contemporary North Carolina art. With Over 7,000 feet of exhibiting gallery space, Green Hill presents ongoing exhibitions, along with educational opportunities for children and adults, and outreach programs. Green Hill hosts symposia, panel discussions, lectures and tours, and has served as a community and statewide resource for over 30 years.

ArtQuest
Green Hill's hands-on art gallery for children and families, ArtQuest, is celebrating ten years of service to the community this October 2006. ArtQuest encourages families and children, students on school tours, and adventurous adults to experience the fun of making art. The interactive exhibits were designed by North Carolina artists and include a painting studio, sculpture studio and space for special events (including birthday parties, camps, scout projects, workshops). Over 250,000 children and adults have visited ArtQuest since its opening in 1996.

Exhibitions
Green Hill's annual exhibits focus on contemporary art and fine craft of the state. A joint exhibition with Budapest Galeria (spring 1997) marked Green Hill’s first international exchange exhibition. In May of 1998, an exhibition of 100 of the finest teapots from the Twining Teapot Gallery of the Norwich Castle Museum in England opened alongside Green Hill's exhibit of 100 contemporary North Carolina teapots. Just Racin': Art on Wheels, showed in 1999. This unique exhibition with works by approximately 30 artists, paired motorsports and art, while celebrating the fiftieth anniversary Grand National Stock-Car Race held in Charlotte, NC in 1949.
Exciting events for spring-summer 2001 include an Art Auction on May 17, featuring a live auction of works by approximately 150 acclaimed artists along with a silent auction. “Quilts and Critters, showing June 9 August 24, features four exhibitions in the Greensboro Cultural exploring North Carolina's rich folk and fiber traditions: three exhibitions of quilts featuring contemporary art quilts as well as traditional, in addition to an exhibition of clay works, were organized by Green Hill Center in collaboration with the NC State University Gallery of Art and Design, the Guilford Native American Gallery, and the Mattye Reed African Heritage Center. Inside Out NC, on exhibit September 7 November 9, 2001 and guest curated by Tom Patterson, highlights works by North Carolina artists many whom are self taught, some who are academically trained. Also showing September 7 November 9 are The Artists of Signature/Studio XI, and Minnie Evans Dreams in Color, a traveling exhibition from the collection of St. John's Museum of Art featuring Wilmington's noted African-American visionary artist.

Education and Outreach
Green Hill's educational outreach programs for children, including Traveling Trunks, Artist-in-the-Schools, and ArtQuest are growing as we share our resources with diverse populations. In 1999, Green Hill's outreach programs added a mobile extension: the ArtQuestMobile, which takes our interactive exhibits and programs out into the community.
Special workshops for teachers, including re-certification programs, and the ArtQuest Moblie are examples of programs demonstrating our commitment to art education.

The Sales Gallery
The Sales Gallery is located within Green Hill and offers a unique opportunity to buy original artwork as well as fine craft that have made North Carolina famous. The shop also has notecards, jewelry, ornaments, along with holiday and childrens’ items. Purchases benefit artists, who receive a commission on sales.

Annual Fundraisers and Events
Each December Green Hill hosts The Winter Show, an exhibition that features over 150 artists from across the state, including pottery, painting, sculpture, photography, and wearable art. Our popular gala and art sale, Collector's Choice, a Greensboro tradition for over 20 years.
